조인영 (In Young Cho)

For more than 15 years, In Young Cho has enjoyed the privilege of teaching English in both corporate and university settings. This experience not only helped her expose to a number of essential teaching aspects, values and philosophies but also led her gradually to become interested in language curriculum and materials development and language teaching methodology. To gain a more complete picture of human language processing, her current interest lies in exploring how personality traits affect patterns of brain activity under different linguistic stimuli. She has also worked as an English language program coordinator in the university setting. She is very excited to be a part of Yonsei FLI and hopes everyone makes their learning a meaningful and memorable experience and enjoys every minute of their time at Yonsei FLI.

Bernard Kim

Bernard S. Kim (Bernie) has been a University Instructor and Adult Conversation, Business-English and Corporate Instructor in Seoul since 2009. In the past, Bernie has conducted classes for Samsung Electronics, Samsung Insurance, and DuPont Korea. In addition, Bernie was a long-time Instructor and Cross-Cultural Advisor at BCM Speakingworks (민병철어학원). Bernie joined Yonsei University FLI in 2013 and he is eager and excited to share his passion for TEFL and develop the language skills of his students. On a personal note, Bernie is a foodie and avid sports fan. When he has free time, he loves trying new restaurants, bars, and local-eateries all around Seoul.

Shawn Kang

For more than ten years, Shawn has enthusiastically been involved in education and English teaching in universities. Since then, he had the fortunate opportunity to meet and instruct a diverse range of students from undergraduates to postgraduate researchers in academics and Boeing Korea to Samsung Electronics employees in corporate business. Since 2016, in Yonsei FLI, he is delighted to actively instruct various curriculum such as general conversation, current issues, listening and speaking, and academic writing. When Shawn is not engaged in schoolwork, he likes to be outdoors and active such as surfing and skiing.

Richard Rose

Richard has taught English language, academic writing, literature, and rhetoric for nearly two decades in Canada, Dubai, and Korea. His approach to language education prioritizes clear, precise, and concise interpersonal communication. He sees language learning as a tool to connect people across borders and to improve the breadth and depth of human interaction. A more connected world may be one in which individuals across the globe are able to share ideas, collaborate, and solve urgent problems facing humanity.

Josh has been a University instructor in Korea for 15 years. He has also provided educational courses for Samsung and various sectors of the Korean government. In addition to teaching, he also is an internationally published author and co-founder of Woodpark Picture Books publishing house. He is dedicated to providing meaningful education that will enable learners to unlock their full potential.

Meerae Song

It was purely an accident for Mee Rae to begin a teaching career. Before teaching, she acquired various titles and roles. In New York City, at Korean Air, Mee Rae was a reservation and flight check analyst, analyzing the numbers of passengers to fit into one flight at a time departing from international airports in major cities on the East Coast. Sometimes, she worked at JFK checking in passengers. After receiving a master's degree, Mee Rae has experienced a rewarding journey working as a mental health counselor at Duksung Women’s University. She works at a university in Gyeonggi province when she doesn't have classes at Yonsei University, FLI. Mee Rae's teaching quality aligns with her passion for helping and guiding people. She is involved in various non-profit organizations in the U.S. Whenever she visits the Big Apple, she volunteers at the American Red Cross on 49th street as an emergency communication center dispatcher. She has been an on-call simultaneous interpreter from Korean to English in the Hawaii and Western Pacific region for the National Language Service Corps (NLSC) since 2015. Mee Rae believes teaching will be effective if an educator is involved in communities and not just as a teacher in an institutional setting. On a day off, she enjoys reading books by Michael Connelly and sipping a warm latte at a park.

Josh Avolio

Josh Avolio has been an enthusiastic and dedicated educator of English language learners for nearly 15 years. A lifelong learner, teacher, and traveler, he studied in Canada and the United States and has taught English in many countries and settings while calling South Korea his second home. His teaching philosophy is that learning should be enjoyable as well as educational and that classes should be student-centered and actively prepare students for success locally and globally. Josh is proud to be a member of the Yonsei University FLI team teaching a wide variety of courses and is always excited to work with new and returning students.

Peter Selim

From Toronto to Seoul, Peter has over 15 years of teaching and coaching in the fields of ESL and Business Communication. Some of his accomplishments further extend to various fields of content development, media, and business operations. He is credited with engaging his students in interactive discussions as he equips them with the language skills needed to shine in the real world. He is currently active as a Professor of English, TESOL, and Business Administration, as well as an IELTS examiner. In Peter's free time, you will find him camping, exploring a new beach, or hanging out with his puppy, Mimi.

Sarah Bell

Sarah Caroline Bell has been an English instructor since 2006 when she started teaching international students in New Zealand. Since then, she has taught university students, 1:1 adult conversation classes, young learners, and Business English. She has also taught 1:1 presentation classes, which included individual coaching for a presentation at CES. In addition to her undergraduate studies, Sarah holds additional qualifications in adult and tertiary teaching as well as adult literacy and numeracy education. Sarah joined Yonsei University FLI in 2022. Her current interest in language development lies in exploring the link between the perception of task-based stress and student progress. She is also passionate about ancient languages and how they inform our understanding of modern English, especially from a second-language learning perspective.
